Go for the displacement. Cubic inches suck. Maybe you should keep looking for a 283, or use what ever it is you first found.

That's a tough one for sure. I'm gonna say cubic inches because displacement modifications can get very expensive, especially if you decide on a big bore/stroke.

What rear is in the car? If it is the original it may be better to stay with a small short stroke engine like a 302 (four inch bore 283) to keep torque down to save parts.
