Default ZZX Cam??

I am currently running a hotcam w/1.6 GMPP Roller Rockers and hydraulic lifters. This is on the 113 castings on top of a ZZ4 GMPP block and a SuperRam intake. I am considereing either porting current heads or AFR 195. I have heard the ZZX cam and think it sounds awesome, I just love the nasty idle....Would this work with my setup, or can someone point me to a better suggestion.

Thanks,
Doug

wayyy too much cam for a super ram car. If you insist on that cam ditch the super ram and go with a single plan converted to efi or the tpis miniram.

And if you really intend to spin it that far, why not go to a solid roller? The problem with that ZZX cam is that unless it's a big motor, it shifts your power curve up to the point of valve float for most hyd valve trains. Remember bigger is not always better, particularly in a street car that needs to operate in the lower rpm range with reasonable compression ratios. good luck

Well bummer! I really love the lopey nasty sound of that cam! Here is what I am thinking, but I need some knowledgable advice here so I don't screw it up! I am running the ZZ4 crate motor right now, forged crank, pink rods, and hypereutectic pistons at a 10:1 CR. I currently have a hotcam, 1.6 roller rockers, and a Superram. I am seriosly considering going to the single plane conversion that Jeb makes, mainly because I dont want to put the superram back on again if I pull it off. Also looking at porting or replacing my current heads, and a solid roller cam if I go this route.
1. Is this too much for a novice wrench to handle? I have never been inside an engine before.
2. Would the lower end hold up to this type of setup? THe crank is forged but not the rods or pistons.
3. If I pulled the heads, I would like to go 10.5 CR at least, or as far as I could reasonably go and still use pump gas.
4. What kind of hp/tq would I reasonably be able to guesstimate for something like this?
I would like the car to have serious cajones, yet still be streetable. The motor has about 5K on it since I dropped it in. I dont want to/cant afford tearing it out again and building a 383 which I should have done in the first place........
Just looking for some knowledgable advice, dont wanna get my a$$ handed to me by any ricers.

Thanks in advance!!!

i have a zz-x cam in my miniramed 350ci.. i does have a nasty idle. had to idle at 1000 rpm's to make any vacuum.. i have dart pro1 heads with all good components.. the dyno shows max hp at 6300 rpms.. i dont get valve float until about 6700.. set my shift light to 6200 to help keep it together.. unless you plan to shift at 7k you dont need a solid cam.. torque is minimal until 2500 rpms. then it stays flat at about 420 fwtq from 2500 to 6000.. made about 460 fwhp with a lean condition 14.5 /1. svo#24's were maxed out at 110% dc at 3500rpms. so i had to go with #30's..

Salle Chevrolet sell a "Super AFR"using a unmodified ZZ4 short block with AFR 195s that makes
464Hp @ 6100
440Ft/lb @ 5300
using a GM 846 roller cam/1.5 rockers.Has a rev kit to run over 6000 rpm.
Stock PM rods and Hyper pistons.
