Ok so apparently what we have been told is that the Felpro 1094 head gasket won't hold up to over 10:1 compression. Correct? Well it would of put me in the 10.25-10.50 range, so that isn't going to work.

What other good options do I have for a gasket?

Scorp, i went with a victor reinz "nitro seal" #5746. It's .026 compressed thickness, stainless & graphite, good up to 14:1CR. Best i could find for my application. They aint cheap though.

good luck

Thanks, Ralph. Well if its what will work and work good, then I'm willing to shell it out.

$34.95 each, wow. [img]http]//www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif[/img] Those look to be ok also, but are even thicker compressed thicknet than the Victor Reinz. The 1010s are .039

Scorp, I am also using a victor reinz gasket set. 0.029 compressed thickness. I got em from LPE. No problems so far.

Scorp, I am in the same boat as you, I bought the Felpro 1094 around the same time as you. Have you tried returning the Felpro 1094? I am undecide whether I should just try slapping them on, I drive a lot less then you (under 2000 miles/year) and I plan building a 383 in the near future.

$34.....you got a better deal than i did!!! I bought mine the from the shop that was doing my heads. he charged me almost $90 for the pair...damn near pee'd in my pants. i figured he was gouging on the gaskets, but he took a bunch off the bottom line, so it probably evened out.

Scorp
Who says they won't hold 11:1?
What kind of heads, rather, what type of finish on heads/block? smooth?

Also consider GM 10105117 15.65 ea. from Pace .028"

That's interesting. I used that gasket for over 2 years with 11:1 compression and AFR heads. I never had a problem.

10:1, not 11]1, and felpro themselves did.

I have run the GM gaskets as mentioned above for a very long time with no problems. I am over 11:1 with a blower. The pistons gave before the head gaskets. I have also run the FelPro 1010s, and will be running them on the new motor. They appear to be preflattened SS.

I revived this thread, because I when found the Victor Reinz head gasket part number (5746)for bumping the C/R a half point, I also found the following that I thought I would share with everybody. I spoke to the Tech guys at Victor Reinz (Dana) and they confirmed that this part number is 0.29" new, and ~ .026"/.027" compressed. It has a graphite facing on one side only. For an aluminum head engine the graphite is installed facing the head. This gasket expands and contracts without tearing apart, as the aluminum and iron block expand/contract at different rates.

The best part is, these are sold through Carquest and Napa. (same P/N) Carquest sells them for $46 for the pair.

Sorry for the "edit", but when I called back to order, they stated that they miss quoted the price of $23/pr.

My Brodix heads recommended 1010's.

I ran them on the first motor, dropped a valve, had to fix the head and replace the block, so I was tight for cash...went with a cheapo victor 87& up gasket kit ( all gaskets included ) for like $30 at pep boys...had to buy bigger intake and header gaskets to match the ports though. I never had a problem with 10.5:1 with the el cheapo stock replacement victor gaskets.
