It's got to be getting close by now! I am curious to how things are coming(I'm sure lots of others on the board are too). Has it been fired in the car yet? What's left to button it up? Drop a line when you get a chance. Can't wait to hear some results.
The car goes to the chassis shop next friday for the headers and exhaust. He ssaid it would take him about 2 weeks to finish it.
I've got all of the EFI electronics done, and all of the fuel system. I was just waiting on fuel pump controllers for my fuel pumps, but I got those last week and installed them yesterday.
I dropped off a tempalte for my speedo/tach panel today, and he said he'll ahve it one by Wednesday. Once I get that back, I can finish the interior, and it'll just be exhaust.
The 2nd or 3rd week of August is looking good.
However, I did recieve a bit of bad news today, in a way. I was talking to one of the guys at the chassis shop with a Tremec TKO in his supercharged Mustang. He's amking about 650hp like me, but 650 ft lbs. He stripped several gears in his TKO. The funny thing is that he also broke 2 ROD6's before this, and swithc to the Tremec TKO because of it's higher rating. He still trashed it. He claims he didn't abuse it though. I guess I'll try it out, and if it doesn't work out, I'll have to get a Jerico this winter. I think that would be pretty trick anyway.
I'm guessing you're commenting on the pluralism of my statement. I could do just fine with a single fuel pump with my current combo, but I am serious about going twin turbo this winter, so I'm planning ahead...Too much is just enough!
Anyway, Stingray, you're one to talk . You still have faster 1/4's than me! Until I finally finish this thing, I'm just speaking out my ****.
Heh heh... Looks like I'm creeping up on the full Monty! Car is ready to go over to Chris this week. We'll probably be moving it over on Wed or Thurs. Everything is in. Tank, fuel lines, pumps, filters, drivetrain, roll bar posts etc. Bill kicked some serious butt the past few weeks. Chris said it would only take him a week or two, so we may be cranking by mid August as well. It's gonna be close!
P.S. That news about the TKO & ROD's is NOT encouraging for me. He had to be abusing it some..
Even though they cost around 5 grand, I really would love to have a Jerico 5-speed.
Of course the 5th gear would be a slight overdrive.
Think about it this way, for the cost of two Richmond 6-speeds and a Tremec TKO, he could have bought almost two Jerico's.
Merlin, you really should think about a serious tranny like that. I'm thinking about it with "just" a 630 horse 427, because I don't know how well a Muncie will hold up (not a rock crusher). Of course, with a 250 horse shot of 2-stage laughing gas, that becomes close to 900 hp. It's built for that, but I don't know if I'll ever use it. If I do, I could probably kiss one good M20 goodbye.
I'm seriously thinking about cryogenically freezing the gears and shafts when I rebuild the Muncie.
I'll have to show Frank this post...He wants to convert to a Manual trans. Preferably a "STRONG" 5 speed..He's a corner carver and HATES autos. Personally.. I would leave well enough alone.. She runs BEAUTIFULLY as is. Like me, LOL He's never happy Any suggestions for him on STRONG manuals? without too many RACY type quirks?
Hey, we gotta do what we gotta do to keep the C3 respectable. I'm sure we all feel the same, that the C3 body style is one of the most beautiful body style to ever be made. Now, the trick is to get the performance near the level of the newer cars.
I'd love to put one of Jerico's internal rail road race 5 speeds in my car. It will happen eventually, I'm sure. I just love the gear noise generated by the synchronized, straigh cut gears in competion transmissions. I'm sure it would get tiring in a street car in no time, but for a weekend street machine, it just sounds awesome.
Merlin, I may be able to get away with a commerically available tranny like a TKO or a ROD, but I really don't think it'll last for you. You're just gonna have too much power. In all honesty, you'd probably be best served by a Liberty or maybe a 4L80 or something. But I can understand why you want a shifter.
I would suggest the HEWLAND STA-5speed. THey are good for 600-650 LB/TQ. The BF-GOODRICH TRANS-AM SCCA cars use these. They have a stifling price though at $11,500. http://www.hewland-engineering.co.uk...trange/sta.htm
These are probably too much for what you want to spend though. Just a thought though
As far as OEMs I've heard the viper T56s are real beefy, and has anyone ever managed to hook a ZR1 ZF6 to a regular SBC. There was one of those for sale on here with a crazy 600+ft lb rating. Then there is the ZF tranny in the new HD chevy pickups, the new TDs make as much torque as your 427.
