if you are looking straight down at the top of the distributor, where is no 1 plug wire in relation to the tach/batt hook up? i looked in chilton and haynes, they dont show it in relation to the hookup. im prety sure i dont have it hooked up right as i had a giant fireball come out of the carb and start a fire. help, please!!!

typically...

from the Tach/Batt connection on the big Coil in Cap HEI. The # 1 is usually the second post counted clockwise from the TACH/Batt.

Also if the motor is sitting on TDC the Rotor should be pointing toward the #1 Cylinder..

Also make sure your rotor is not 180deg off from TDC

thanks, i dont know what i was thinking earlier......just getting frustrated i guess. i just lined up tdc and went from there...thanks alot though!!
