Main girdle, do I need one?

Looking at purchasing a girdle for my Olds 455 too .... probably the halo type due to the others being too expensive for my taste. I already have Miloden main caps so I think this combo should hold 600 Hp. As to needing a girdle on a SBC, probably is not necessary unless your making some serious power. The reason oldsmobiles need them, is that they only have 2 bolt mains with a thin web that tends to allow the bearings to move around, thus shortening their life span.
