Default Engine Code Help

on a 71 corvette the casting numbers is 3963512,the code should be CPH,where do I find this code is it stamped or is it forged? Any help is appreciated

Don't know why i look these numbers up as i'm not a resto minded enthusiest but its kind'a challenge as i have the books to do so.

CPH is a suffix code and its stamped at the end of the stamped engine code on p-side front of block that includes plant mfr, date and VIN.
Very possible that if eng has been rebuilt then the deck has been machined and the stamp removed or a eng rebuilders stamp applied.
A casting date code is in rear of block also and cast into block.
