I am thinking of adding a NOS system to my 74 with a zz4 and HOTCAM, and 4 -speed. I was looking for some advice and/or suggestions before installing it. Im pretty sure im actaully getting the kit (Super Powershot) as a gift in a few weeks, so thats taken care of. In addition to the kit im getting, or asked for :D im going to get a purge kit, blanket, safety blow down tube, and nitrous guage and fuel pressure gauge to compliment the new oil pressure gauage i have. Probablly get the new 2 gauges in Sport-Comp form also and get a 2 gauge panel and mount somwhere nice....but anyway.....
What i am most concerned about it is safety of my motor! What other safety precautions can i take besides the Fuel pressure safety switch??
Thanks in advance for any info or advice...
Chris
i hope you have an electric pump with its own fuel line. you are gonna need it to have enough pressure to make the safty switch active. machanical pumps dont have a continues flow, they pulsate the gas to the motor, this is not good for nitrous. :(
I run a 200 shot on mine with keith black hyper-junk pistons, stock heat range plug and 34 degrees of timing. i run the 200 shot on 50% 91 octane and 50% 110 octane. I run a 150 shot on straight 91 octane. I use about a 10# bottle per week at the track and street racing.
Not planning on getting new pistons since i wont be using it all the time, and since the motor is practically brand new anyway...
I am also going to get an electric fuel pump, a holley black
The ZZ4 should already have forged pistons in it (I think). Also before injesting the gas , you might want to make a pass or two on the motor , and instal a fuel pressure gauge. You want to make sure you don't have a lean condition at top end. I think you want at least or no less than 4-5 lbs of pressure at top end. If not you can get a good qulity mechanicle pump from ..haha believe it or not carter fuel pumps(offered through Summit or Jeggs). I run one on my camaro, and at idle I've got 8 1/2- 9 lbs, and at top end about 7-71/2. When injested with the gas it of course drops to about 4-5 lbs. Also drop some timing, and if you really want to be conservative...p.c. fore SAFE, you might want to fatten the carb a little.
Good luck, and fly low.... :jester
the zz4 dropped the forged pistons some time ago. i dont know why, to save money perhaps. but he may have one with the forged if he got it a while back.
