I am running a carbureted engine. Only electroinc is an MSD ignition box. Is there such a thing as a knock (preignition detector) that I can install on this setup
You can use a J & S knock sensor. Runs close to $500 (ouch), but it may be what you're looking for. You can search on http://www.google.com to find several links and comments.
I actually bought the J & S system but never installed it. This was around 08/97 after reading an article either on Car Craft or Hot Rod mag. Paid something like $600. It does have individual cylinder knock control and you can set it up to run from a V8 to a rotary engine.
I guess now a days what it does is already included in the F.I. computers, to me it was a way of knowing if my spark curve on the edelbrock f.i. was too advanced...
anyways, I lightened up, and left it on the shelf, will probably take out the whole FI and go back to carb & manifold (Rochester performer rpm & Weiand Team G).
If you do want to have an idea of how it works I could try finding the instructions and scan them for you.
