I have finally completed my install of my Edelbrock heads. Thanks to the depth of knowledge on this forum, I had few problems. These heads replaced some old 520 64cc castings that are low HP passenger car units. The new heads are also 64cc and fit ok with L79 domed pistons and work out to a 10.2 CR.
I noticed was that it took longer to warm up enough to drive without the exhaust crossover (in 40 degree weather and no choke). The engine seems to wind up faster when in neutral and a short round the block run shows promise of being much quicker. The engine sounds a lot different now. So far no white smoke and oil and water are staying where they should be.
I was concerned about scratches in one of the cylinders but no oil smoke is evident. I have remember it’s a Chevy small block and not Swiss watch.
So I’ve had the heads on for a few weeks and have about 100 miles on them. The only real change was the heads. Carb, intake and exhaust manifolds all the same. The old setup produced carbon black plugs from mostly easy low RPM driving. The same driving with the new heads produces light tan color plugs.
Can the higher flow of the Edelbrock heads make that much difference in the carburetor jetting? The carburetor is a Holley Street Avenger 670 CFM with the original jets.

Sounds more like something is sealed up now that wasn't.
More likely some obscure improvement made with the new heads - vlv seals, intake, PCV hose routing, vac lines and check vlv corrected?
But a 100mi ain't alot to compare with.
So how's that thang run? Edelbrock heads worth it? I expect it to get up and run now - big improvement?
Any feedback would be helpful.

No. You only have 100 miles and the plugs are already tan. Give them a chance, they'll turn black. The carburetor meters out fuel based on the amount of air that passes through the venturis. Changing the heads won't make a major difference in the A/F ratio. Whatever made it run rich before...still is. Probably a warped gasket surface or a blown power valve.

RACE ON!!!
Yea, 100 miles is not much but what about all the advice of reading the plugs after a hard run? See that lots of places. When I said carbon black, it was not at the heavy fouling point. As far as performance goes, too soon to tell but it seems to really pull harder after 3500rpm. The sound is alot different and driveability till good and warm is poor. Both due to the exhaust crossover removal I would guess.
