attn mini-ram owners
the thermostat mounting area in my mini-ram is the same depth as the thermostat I got from TPIS (170deg). this does not give my thermostat any room to open up when at operating temp. the stat has a brass cylinder that moves with the valve and makes it longer when open.
lenghts:
mounting surface to end of stat(closed): 1inch
mounting surface to end of stat(open): 1 and 5/16 inch
mounting surface to bottom of intake : 1 and 1/16 inch maybe
hopefully I can find a shorter thermostat tomorrow. will let you know if I do.

I found a thermostat that can work but is the wrong temp. so I swapped the spring and valve from the old one. the one I found was at AutoZone
part # 403-192
the 192 is the temp of the stat. it is raised up from the mounting surface 3/16 or so. you may be able to order one in the proper temp for your miniram, but I am uncertian about it.
here is a pic of the new and old stat. http://www.corvetteforum.net/c4/olrj/pictures/m28.jpg
new one on left . the old one is a little bent from my swapping springs.
you can see the way the new one has a step that raises it from the intake.
I have it all back together now (with 4 bypass holes 3/16 dia in the stat). she runs nice and cool now
179 to 190 idleing in the garage.
happy happy joy joy
could very well be the problem. if you take it apart and can't push it open with a screwdriver while its in the intake, you'll know for sure.
I'd still use some bypass holes in the thermostat because even with the raised one I don't think it can open all the way up. it sure is a improvement though, I have 130miles on the 406ci now and the highest temp was 201deg but most of the time its in the 185 to 190 range while driving.
good luck

Do you have any tip in problems with your car?
Jason
I have heard some people bring up a tip in problem with the mini-ram.
Any Ideas about why this is happening on mini-rams???
I take it you got tired of chasing the tip in problem.
(I'm just quessing since I'm new to fuel injection),but it seems to be a lack of fuel for a split second, sorta like a bad accelerator pump on a carb..
surely there is some extra fuel injected when the TPS shows movment????
