Default zz383 intake manifold

I have a GM zz 383 425hp crate motor in my 66. Vortec heads. Patriot headers and sidepipes. When I installed the engine I put an Edelbrock Performer Intake on it to get under the small block hood. It fit OK. Now the car is coming out of the paint shop and I have installed an aftermarket 66 big block hood. I now want to step the intake up to an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap. Do you think this manifold will be the right way to go? Thanks in advance.

The RPM Air Gap is a phenomenal manifold and will be perfect for your application. I have a Performer RPM on my ZZ383 and it is the exact same height as a Performer RPM Air Gap. The only difference between the two is the plenum divider and the air gap. I wanted to maintain a stock appearance and that's why I didn't want the Air Gap. After a little work, I was able to fit it all under the stock small block hood of my '67.

If you have seen the DynoJet numbers on my combination you know that it works quite well.

Dennis,

I've got a ZZ383 with Fast Burn Heads, an Edelbrock Air Gap Part 7516. It's got a Holley 700 CFM double pumper and 3 inch tall air cleaner sitting on top and it clears the 66 big block hood. But as always check clearance before slamming the hood.

Cheers,

Ed

Steve - IMO Edelbrock! Very poor excuses for even getting close to port matching the heads. I was very impressed with the Weiand Stealth.

Everything about edelbrock - without lots of man hours in port matching work or in the case of single planes and installing turtles the fuel distribution is pathetic.

George, you might be right. I am so used to port matching everything I buy that I guess I really don't know any better. Actually, this one was very close - I may have gotten lucky.

Maybe a little off topic, but how do you all like your 425 horse 383's? I was thinking about getting one next year.
Anyone run em down the 1/4 mile? I have a 65 with a TKO 5 speed and 4:11 rear. Think it would run 12's easily with that engine?

Thanks Steve, that was an awesome read Thanks for sharing all your hard work/info with us.

Guess I better start saving my pennies I was thinking about buying the ZZ383 short block and running the AFR heads. Not really sure yet. Might just run the full ZZ383 engine from GMPP. I'll have to do a cost analysis to see if it would be worth buying the short block, and adding AFR's or just buying the full 425 horse version, with the GM heads.

I'll be running sidepipes and headers with mine though. Not sure how well sidepipes flow. Guess I'll find out.

I know this point is probably mute, but what kind of fuel mileage are you getting out of this combo?

Most of my driving is around town and I am averaging a little over 11 mpg. I recently added a 50 mile freeway trip to my around town driving and the combined mileage was 13.3 mpg.

Not bad, for that kind of performance. I think I only get 14 with my crappy 350 dog motor I have now.
