Which side is up???
Okay - so the 383 build is going okay and I'm about to set the heads in place. I'm installing the Chevy Impala head gaskets and I'm stumped....accoding to my Vette manual (she's a 94) I'm supposed to make sure that the "yellow tab is up" but the Impala gaskets do not have a witness mark / color to go by. There seems to be two sides to the gasket - one side has definite outlines (of metal) outlining the bolt holes and the pistons. The other side has outlines around the pistons only.....my guess is that the bolt hole outlines get mounted towards the heads?? But I'm not certain - comments / guidance would be appreciated.
