I've been tossing around thoughts of a new intake. My main concern is to keep the hood clearence with the stock air breather (required by law in my area). I've only heard of 2 manifolds which will work. The Edelbrock Performer and the Weiand Action plus. They are exactly the same price and the same height. Due to advertising and hipe, the Edelbrock seems to have an edge, but I've heard here on the forum that some stock items such as the brackets for the throttle cable had to be fitted (cut or ground). There's got to be a pretty good pool of experience here amoung you guys. Any advice??
What year of car, engine, carb, air cleaner type? I've got a weiand single plane Team G intake which doesn't sacrifice too much low end power yet makes excellent high rpm power. Fits under a 74 hood with a 2 inch drop base and holley 650 dbl pump. There is a street version and a strip version. I've got the street version.

Are you running the #7525? If so, how does the low-end throttle response compare to a dual-plane? Are you running it with a plenum separator plate?
Sorry about the lack of info. My car is a 1980 L-82. My local inspection regs require a visual inspection to determine that the original air cleaner and polution controls are in place. In other words I have to clear the hood with the stock air cleaner installed. I'm just getting my carb back from Lars, It's a Q-jet (793)cfm which he just rebuilt and ran on a 455. I have new 23 degree trick flow heads and am running an estimated 9.8 to 1 CR. My cam is Comp grind 12.242.2 also known as the XE 268. Because of the space considerations, the Edelbrock 3701 and the Weiand 8000 are the only two I've ever heard knocked about here on the forum that meets that requirement. Thanks again for your advice.
I am running the 7530 Team G. It didn't come with a plenum dividor plate. I can floor it from 1000 rpm and up with no stumble (that took quite a bit of carb tuning). I think a dual plane would make more lowend torque, but with my 4 speed I can get away with losing a little. According to dyno tests by Vizard this intake gives up little low rpm torque to a dual plane. With a stroker small block this slight loss of torque wouldn't be an issue.
I've got a Corvette midrise, dual plane, aluminum manifold in xlnt condition off a '65 350 hp that will clear your hood and look factory stock to non-Corvette people.
Vizard also had similar positive things to say about the 7525 too. The thing I like about the 7525 is the dual bolt pattern for both spreadbore & squarebore carbs. Strike3, it even has an EGR boss if you have to meet visual emmisions checks. I'm kind of surprised that there aren't more guys using this manifold. Anybody out there that used this manifold before?
I have the Team G 7525, mainly because I run a Q-Jet. I bought it for my 383 buildup, but I did install it on my tired old 350. I did not notice any difference between the stock iron manifold and the new 7525, but the engine was a real dog. My point on putting the manifold on the old 350 was to see if it was undrivable on the street like I've read so many times about single plane manifolds.
According to Holly (who owns Weiand), the 7525's "power band" is 2000 - 6500 RPM, while the 7530's "power band" is 2800 - 7200 RPM. They are similar in both front and rear heights (about .1" different), so they should both fit under the stock hood with a good drop base air cleaner.
I have not actually driven my car with the 383, so I can't say how well it pulls at the upper RPMs.
What inspection are you talking about  ? Our pollution control inspections ended last year. I would say run any intake you want as long as you get it to fit under a hood.
