Default 383 Rod Bolt Clearance

I am currently beginning the assembly of my 383. This is the first stroker SBC I have built and I have run into a question. I had the block clearanced by the machine shop. I put #1 and #2 pistons in and rotated the block to find VERY little clearance on the #2 rod bolt. I thought I was imagining things so I checked the clearance with a set of gauges and it is less than 0.006" (that was the smallest one I had). That seems REALLY tight to me. Am I being paranoid or is it realistic to believe the block may expand enough to cause a clearance problem at operating temperatures. The #1 rod bolt seems to have much more clearance. What is the minimum clearance recommended?

I believe .030 is enough, some run .060. I run .030 on my carbed ProCharged (D1SC) 383. When you get it together, let's compare notes!

Well, looks like the one I was concerned about has zero clearance when rotated counterclockwise. The others that I checked have at least 0.015" clearance. I still need to check 7 and 8 and then clearance #2.

Sounds like a nice build you have big_G. What numbers are you putting down?

The number I live by is .050". That is for both the block and the camshaft. Bolt clearance can vary widely, depending on the rods being used.

RACE ON!!!

No numbers yet, still dealing with fuel pump issues. Feels very strong so far, not going to beat it too hard until I can set my A/F ratio on the dyno.
