Default How does a distributor work?

Hi guys...

Been wondering something for awhile now.

How does centrifigal advance work? When I have a dizzy in my hands, and turn the shaft the whole shooting match turns. At RPM I can see how the weights swing out, but I havent figured how the shaft changes position.

What I am seeing is a drive shaft keyed into the cam, and a distributor housing that is fixed in one location. How does the rotor advance?

Thanks :o

The drive shaft is not keyed to the cam. Take a closer look. The cam is on the same part (cam piece?) the rotor is attached to. That is independent of the drive shaft. As the weights swing outward under centrifugal force the small tail on the end of the weight pushes the cam piece away from the drive shaft. The only connection between the cam piece and the drive shaft are the springs. Take another look, you'll see it.

RACE ON!!!
