Default 427 small block?

Has anyone done a 427 small block? I hear the HP and torque are close to a big block.

Place this question in C4 performance Tech section, there are a few 427 out there.

A cubic inch is a cubic inch. To be in the real same league as big block requires heads like Brodix -12 with 272 cc intakes and then you can approach the 400 CFM levels just like the big block boys.

I drive a nice 434 SBC

I think the BBC boys are getting around 400cfm these days... AFRs' new 195 cc heads flow 280cfm/Street version or the 300cfm/Comp version @.600". Either of these would work very well with a 4" stroke SBC motor.

Not on streetable sub 440 ci big blocks. Look up the flow rates for some of the edelbrock bbc heads. With the 300 or so cc intake port volume.

To the poster. I use Dart 227 cc heads with lower 300+ cfm. They are about the minimum you would want to use

Thanks,
I was looking at 215 heads, seems way too small. You saved me a lot of money!

My compression is 11.8 You only have a limited number of choices with 434 ci small block racing pistons made for up to .800 lift with altered degree heads with bigger diameter valves like 2.200/1.625.

Instead of typing it all again. Go to my forum home page.

I think Chevy built a small block 427. I think they call it an LS7!

But an LS7 won't easily fit in my '61 w/o a lot of work,a nd it won't look like a 283....

I am finishing up a 427 on a Dart little M block with Dart Pro1 Alum CNC heads. Bore is 4.190", stroke is 3.85".

Engine analyzer shows this putting out about 520 T/HP with a fairly mild solid roller of .520/.550" lift and 224/232 duration at .050". should be nicely streetable.

Last weekend at the track my 434 ci small block had enough TQ to overpower 12X27 road racing slicks nearly anywhere on the track. I have to bog the motor in 3rd and 4th gear to keep from spinning to hard out of the turns. So i'm not sure how you could get more power to really work in a street machine.

In this video I shift from 4-5 at @ 135mph and top out in the 150's before slowing down just past the flag stand.

www.worldcastings.com

They sell turnkey smallblocks. Their detuned 427 comes with 550hp while their racing 427 smallblock puts out 675hp. They even sell a 600hp 454 smallblock with a two year warranty.

Sounds like the answer is no. They've all been professionally built and they'd rather keep it a secret and charge you big bucks.

There must be a standard recipe to do this.

I have a Rodeck 350+ block i would like to install a max stroke crank.

What i understand of it is.

you need a small base circle cam and/or raised cam location.

Wider pan rails and/or grinding on the pan rails for clearance. How much can you grind before you ruin the block???

Do you have to grind on the rods???

Someone want to fess up?
