Default Timing chain question???

Just bought a billet crane timing chain....was wondering if anyone had any knowlege of the average chain stretch after running a few hundred miles.....in degrees.....set my cam at 106 intake(which is allready 2 degrees retarded on my cam) ....wanted it to be 108...but if I retard it another 2 degrees and the chain stretches 1 degree....I will now be at 109.....

Do not want to use an offset keyway...plus my callies crank has 1 big/long keyway....rather not go that route.

What would be the safe thing to do?
What advantages/disadvatages will I have with the 106.....or the 108/109 on the intake.

I might be all wrong. But I thought that if you advance the cam a degree or two as it streches you end up straight up. If you bought Top of the line roller chain strech is negligable. I have a solid cam with many thousands of miles and the slop is tiny. Modern parts are so nice!

I always install cams straight up. I also don't buy cams with ground in advance. My freind has a degree wheel and with new stuff it's hardly worth checking. His last motor the chain was so tight that it was hard to put on. It was some kind of Crane pro-billet with a thrust bearings.

I'm confused.

If you wanted the cam to be installed at 108, but installed it at 106, you, in fact, installed it advanced, not retarded.

Rememeber, the higher the number (relative to LSA) the more retarded the camshaft is and the the lower the number the more advanced.

So if the cam in ground on 110 centers and you installed it at 106, it's installed 4 degrees advanced. If you installed it at 108 then it's 2 degrees advanced.

You'd have to install it at 111 or greater to retard it.

The crank gear should have different keyway slots to allow you to move the cam four degrees on either side of straight-up. All you do is choose one of them, depending on which way you want to move the cam.

Put up you cam specs and where you want it and we'll try to help out.

Jake
