Timing chain question???
Do not want to use an offset keyway...plus my callies crank has 1 big/long keyway....rather not go that route.
What would be the safe thing to do?
What advantages/disadvatages will I have with the 106.....or the 108/109 on the intake.
I always install cams straight up. I also don't buy cams with ground in advance. My freind has a degree wheel and with new stuff it's hardly worth checking. His last motor the chain was so tight that it was hard to put on. It was some kind of Crane pro-billet with a thrust bearings.
If you wanted the cam to be installed at 108, but installed it at 106, you, in fact, installed it advanced, not retarded.
Rememeber, the higher the number (relative to LSA) the more retarded the camshaft is and the the lower the number the more advanced.
So if the cam in ground on 110 centers and you installed it at 106, it's installed 4 degrees advanced. If you installed it at 108 then it's 2 degrees advanced.
You'd have to install it at 111 or greater to retard it.
The crank gear should have different keyway slots to allow you to move the cam four degrees on either side of straight-up. All you do is choose one of them, depending on which way you want to move the cam.
Put up you cam specs and where you want it and we'll try to help out.
