I just finished my third oil change on a brand new engine. I can still see a little metalic sparkle although its getting less and less in the old oil. My first oil change was after the 20 minute first start up then at 500 miles and again at 1000 miles.
I assumed some of this would be normal, but now I'm getting at little concerned as I thought after 1000 miles I wouldn't see anything.
I mean theres not alot of it, just enough to notice.
Since I've never done this before, is this normal ??

Silver or grey specs are normal. If the specs are copper colored, then you probably have a serious bearing problem. It's normal to find a small amount of magnetic material on your magnetic drain plug, but they should be very fine, not slivers. It's also a good idea to cut open your oil filter and pull ou the filter element. Look between the pleats and make sure there are no slivers.b

If you live in a major metropolitan area, you should be able to find a place to have the oil analyzed in the Yellow Pages. Check "Chemists - Analytical & Consulting" for a lab.
