to have a shop put a 383 shortblock together if i provide the parts? what is fair?

without machine work, about $300-600 depending on how much you want checked or custom.

The top guys in my area get about $400 to assemble a short block. This is to assemble the parts only. Hanging the pistons on the rods is extra.
Installing the Cam, timing chain and oil pump are included in the price.
