Default Machine work for 383.

Say I have a 4-bolt 350 block out of a 1989 Chevy truck, what would the price be to have the machine work done to it for a 383 project? :) I just mean the block/oilpan, not the cost of the rotating assembly.

Boring/honing wuth deck plates and same fasteners - about $175

Decking (if necessary) - about $125

Align-honing (if necessary) with oil pump/stud installed and same fasteners- about $125

Hot tanking - about $75

Clearancing for rods - you can do this yourself. If I remember correctly, you have access to a Bridgeport machine or at least a die grinder. A machine shop might charge about $50-75 for this.

Install cam bearings - about $40

Check Speedway Motors http://www.speedwaymotors.com/ or Flatlander Racing. They both seem to have pretty good prices on 383 kits.

I don't have an itemized receipt for my work but if you call Superior at 508-634-4781, they can give you estimates, or e-mail is jetcar@net1plus.com. If you are going to do a 383, they can give you costs of different buildups. I just bought my AFR 190's so mine is going together as we speak.:) For what I paid, I got a better engine than a lot of the kits and crate motors.

Scorp,
Around here, the machine work will cost approx. $500 for what is required to step up to the 383.

If you are looking for higher hp and durability, you may want to consider a one piece seal block w/ 2 bolt mains and have splayed caps installed. This could pay dividends when it comes to N2O. This mod will likewise cost $500.

Just a thought.
