We just fired my new motor for the first time today (1965 327/350hp). I have too much fuel pressure, gas was blasting through the secondaries at 2000 rpm. We installed a temp. fuel pressure regulator just to break in the motor and it solved the problem. I installed a 350hp fuel pump from Corvette Central. Should I try another pump?
I would be very much surprised if your 350 fuel pump was putting out enough fuel pressure to flood the secondaries. (I think that the high performance models only flowed between 7-9 psi.) Installing a temporary fuel pressure regulator only staunched the flow of fuel, but probably won't solve it. (Can you idle the engine below 900 rpm w/o flooding the secondaries?)
I would instead look at your carb to determine why the fuel float(s) weren't doing their job. It's not uncommon for debris to enter the fuel lines during an engine/carb rebuild and end up preventing the fuel needle from closing all the way thereby allowing fuel creep to fill up the secondaries to the point that fuel was free flowing from the boosters.
