i currently have a 383 with world sportsman II heads that has a mild cam(unknown grind) and is not very quick. the car is a 63 conv. with a 4 speed and 3.73 gears. my question is do i put in a solid roller and a set of afr heads on the 383 or build a 434 (i already have the block)and use my sportsman II heads. i am trying to stay within about a $3500 budget. which combo would make more power?
You need to maximize what you have with a good roller cam of around 236 intake. You also need something like a Weiand Stealth dual plane or their single plane. You need good headers and a free flowing dual exhaust system.
Then you can reuse all these parts if you ever decide to upgrade to a 400+ ci
the world heads are 10+ years old with very low miles. is it worth the money to upgrade with newer heads? it has a victor jr. intake.
What is the max rpm you plan on spinning your motor? The SPII heads with a bigger cam and mid .500 lift can feed a 383 up to about 6000 rpm.
The VJ intake is a poor example. Without turtles installed and time on the flow bench it provides fuel separation........ It was intended for 4000-8000
if you have side exhaust and go with the afr heads you will need custom headers as i have found that no one makes headers for the raised port heads and side exhaust, ( Stahl makes them custom)
