Default Accel DFI ProRam or Holley Commander 950?

I've been researching these systems quite a bit, but with the exception of Zwede's excellent web site, there's not much first hand experience available. I'm going to put this on a rectangular port, 600hp 540. Here are the facts I've come up with so far:

Both are complete, ready to install systems.

Accel DFI:

-$204 for the CalMap software and cable to program it (WTF?:mad)
-$2379 from Summit, plus CalMap = $2583
-36 lb. injectors.
-Lingenfelter built 1200 cfm billet throttle body.
-braided steel crossover fuel lines and AN fittings.
-I think it's compatible with Wideband.
-Is it sequential? Can't find this info anywhere.

Holley Commander 950:

-$2402 from Summit.
-Steel fuel lines and standard double flare fittings.
-1000 cfm billet Holley throttle body.
-Choice of injectors (30,36, 42, 50, etc.)
-Software is included (but is it as capable as CalMap, or just not as pretty?)
-Not sequential.
-No wideband option.

I need a top-fed system so I can use it with the cold air setup and an L88 hood.

Am I missing any important points? Right now, the Accel seems like a slightly more capable system at a slightly higher price (+$180) Which one would you guys choose?

Thanks!

There is more than one accel DFI system for sale on the camaroz28.com for sale section.

You could save some money over there.

I have only used the Holly System. It's pretty good. All the parameter are most likely the same from the Holley to the Accel.

I did have a problem with it though, after about two months that ECM went so a crap. I had to get new one from Holley. Six weeks outta commision.

I had to do it again, I would go Accell DFI. For a couple of reasons. First, My first impression was that the holley was not as robust as the Accell. Not as many poeple are using the Holley compared to Accell DFI. I would have had alot more tech support available if i went with the Accell. Its been around for while and it has been tried tested and trued.

The Holley is based on a totaly different ECM environment. The Accel (i think) is pretty much a programable GM ECM. And thats reliability that you can't beat.

Also, the more serious racers & tunners use the Accell, just adding to the more tech support argument.

Overall, I was disappointed with Holley's tech support, product availability, and product quality. But, IT DID get the job done.

Good Luck

I assume that you get everything that you have listed for that money.
I paid about $800 for my dfi two years ago. I have not had any problems with it. Lots of talk about the new fast system because it is wide band. The 36lb injectors are not nearly big enough for 600hp. Your post will probably be like most by that I mean everyone recommends whatever they have but technology keeps changing and what was hot last year is out of vogue now.
But I can live with that my outdated dfi engine still kicks azz on everything I have ever run it against. :D

Black Bart, the information I've read says that 36lb. injectors support from 550 to 650 hp. Not true?

The 36pounders would only support 650hp if they were run in batchfire. Your gonna need 50pounders or the next size down if your running in sequential for 600hp. I'd give ya the formula but I know it'll get messed up when I try to post it. Good Luck

Doug F. used to post here on fuel injection systems-primarily Holley as he is a Holley employee working with the Projection systems. I believe he is still around...may try posting on another board-www. chevelles.com under the same "handle". He was extremely helpful and most EFI stuff it seemed.

I would like to run the system on my older vehicle eventually...

Actually, Doug has already responded to my questions on both the Chevelles and Chevytalk boards. He's a very helpful and knowledgable guy! He recommended that I run 42# injectors for over 600 hp. He said the 36# would be fine for 550hp.

Formula HP=lb/hr flow rate x 8 injectors x 0.8
________________________________________
0.5

Lets look at example of how much power we can expect from 36 lb injectors
HP=36x8x0.8
___________
0.5 HP=460hp@43.5lbs fuel pressure
If you where to run much higher fuel pressure these will work on 500hp engine. I would use 42# then If later you make mods you wont have to buy new injectors.
