On the L98 style roller blocks, is there a bearing that goes behind the retainer plate in the front? Or would it be OK to install it with just the plate?
Roller cam blocks don't use a bearing behind the plate. Non-roller blocks need the bearing since they don't have a plate to limit rearward movement of the cam.
There are basially two type of bearings for the Non-roller blocks- One type is a single brass or copper type that looks like a BIG washer; the other type is actually a three piece set,Torrington bearing type, which is the best one to use.
The Non-roler blocks also need a thrust bumper in the front of the cam to limit forward movement. There are two type of these too; one a fixed, solid type and the other has a roller bearing (which is the best one to use).
