Just have to fill with coolant, put in some gas, prime it, stab in the distributor and twist the key. Let's have a non-poll. I figure there are 7 things that can leak. What's it going to be:
Oil
Coolant
Fuel
P.S. Fluid
Trans Fluid
Exhaust
Vacuum
Seems like the consensus is oil or vacuum. This has been a long time coming--I blew up my last engine on April 22 and this one has been under construction since about June. Long story.
It's a forged 406 (Eagle crank and rods, SRP pistons). It's got Dart Pro-1 215 c.c. heads. Pistons are .008" in the hole at TDC and with the .039" head gasket the quench is .047" This gives about 10.4 static compression. The cam is a Crane Powermax solid (244/252 duration at .050 and .518"/.536" lift with 1.5 rockers. On top is a Holley Strip Dominator manifold--courtesy of a very smooth transaction with a forum member--and an 800 CFM Holley D.P. carb. (That intake/carb combo fits under a stock '76 hood if you use one of those Edelbrock signature series air cleaners because they come with a dropped base.)
The weak links are (1) the headers--1 5/8" primaries into 3" collectors and 2 1/2" duals; and (2) the rear gears--3.08.
It's probably going to be a little doggy at lower RPMS but it should pull to 6,500-6,800 easy. I think I'll be shifting into 3rd about 100 feet before the traps. Hey, it'll work for now.
