Was hot rodding a classic tonight; ('69 El Camino) with a supercharged 454 when apparently the blower belt flew off, took out the alternator belt and pulled off the coolant line to the coolant reservoir. This was about 5 miles from the house and about 7 minutes driving time. While returning to the house I noticed the water gauge was on the max reading; (due to no coolant).
Upon return to the house I noticed the belt on the supercharger was missing as well as the alternator belt. The electric fan was running fine and the radiator was only about 1/3 full. The valve covers were not very hot to the touch and there was no steam or burning smells.
After fixing the car and charging the battery the car started just fine and runs normal. Does anyone with real engine experience feel that this overheat condition for a few minutes may have caused any damage the engine or forged internals???
