Nitrous Basics
First my engine has Hypereutectic pistons. Can I run a small shot? Has anyone run nos on these pistons. Seems to me popularity for NOS has gone up. What changes need to be made is in less timing or different plugs. Do I really need two fuel pumps for a small shot? What would a 75-100hp shot feel like? How long will a bottle last? Thanks.

I use N2O with hyperutectic pistons. 100,125 shot so far. I have 150 jets but I've never used them yet. I have one Carter electric fuel pump(72gph). My bottle lasts a while because I normally only make 2-3 N2O passes when I go race and it's only a eighth mile. They advise retarding the timing 2 degrees for each 50 hp but I retard mine 2 degrees on a 125 shot. I use ACCEL 276S plugs which are a medium temp range plug.

When I was building my motor I was considering useing the hyperutectic pistons. I believe it was NOS that told me the NOS will pull the silicon out of the pistons and eventually destroy them. If you run a small shot you might be o.k. I run two totally seperate fuel sytems from the fuel tank, one for the motor, one for the NOS. My system is activated by a W.O.T switch on the carb. When activated the NOS system comes on when the carb is at W.O.T. NOS is safer at higher rpms, as long as do not over rev. You might also consider a fuel pressure safety system. It senses a drop in fuel pressure and deactivates the system. Fuel pressure problems, and predetination are responsible for the vast majority of NOS destroyed motors :chevy

Call the guys at Keith Black (hypereutectic pistons) 1-800-560-4814...one of them told me they had sponsored a guy running a blown alcohol car making 1,200 HP using their pistons. I had called to see if they thought my car (blown gas/street-strip) would live with the additon of 175 NOS shot...they said yes. You will have to buy an ignition retard box to keep your engine from detonating while on the bottle...no matter what style of piston you buy. My weak link will be my Eagle I beam rods, they're only rated for 500 HP, which I'm at now. You should definetly feel the difference with a 100-125 HP shot. Go to http://www.holley.com, get a cup of coffee while it loads for the next five minutes, then click on NOS, then go to nitrous tech...it will show you how much retard you'll need, recomendation for spark plugs and octane , and also lists some E.T./MPH improvements for various cars running NOS before and after.
