Default dumb small block head question

Hi I'm about to put my redone original 66 327 heads back on my motor .
Well they look identical except for an E246 casting# on one and an E 256# on the other . I think the E 256 was on the right side ,but I'm not sure ,or are they interchangable from left to right ? Also any recomendations for sealant for the headbolt threads going into the water jackets ?
Thanks Bruce

The heads are interchangeable from side to side. Before deciding which head to put on which side, check the accessory mounting holes on the end of each head. If you find any damaged threads, you can put that head on the side that would put the damaged threads facing rear. Use permatex #2 or equivilant to seal headbolt threads. This is the black, pliable, non- hardening sealer. Also good to use it on the intake bolts. Or so says the Haynes manual.
