I need some advice here. An engine builder has told me that a 427sbc will not live on an internal oil pump. That I need to go with an external one. The bill will be and extra grand to have this completed. His reasoning is that the vibration the 427 makes, will cause an internal oil pump to fail.
Is there truth to this?
Any help appreciated.
There are plenty of 427 small blocks with internal pumps. Why is there excessive vibration. Sounds like the engine was not balanced right. You will be fine with a top qualitly internal pump.
I personally know of half a dozen SBC 427's that run a wet sump oil pump, including my own. I've considering going with an external wet sump pump, but it's hard to beat the reliability and simplicity of a good wet sump pump. I'm using a Titan Pro-1100 billet pump, but any good pump will work.
Only reason I can think of that he would say that is so he can make some more money off of you. An SBC 427 will not make any more vibration than any other engine, assuming it's balanced competently.
