How much can I bore a 69 L68 427? I have not seen the block yet but I'm told that it has surface rust on the cylinder walls. It has already been bored .030 and I'm just worried that it may be pitted.

Of course .060 is easily doable. You can also get .070 pistons for many combinations, and that would probably be OK. I would have it sonic checked before going to .070 just to be sure,
There are many .100 over big blocks on the street, but you're pushing it. The block will handle .125 but it would really only be suitable for short term drag stuff and would probably require block filler to keep the cylinders somewhat round. Not a good street setup at all.
OK thanks. Your car is one of the best looking Vettes I've seen on the forum. I'm not sure if it's just the car or the overall picture. You set that up just right.

I work for a company that makes large format printers. We can print images anywhere from poster size to billboard size depending on the size and quality of the photo. I'd be interested in making a large print of that image. I'd be willing to make one for you as well if you would send me the photo. If it is a digital image I could make a poster size picture. If it is a proffesionally taken picture I can make one considerably bigger. Let me know if you are interested.

Its an ok pic, the car is great, but there is a tree in the passengers seat and not much light. He would have an excellent pic if it was in the same location with some sunlight making that lake blue and the tree not in over or behind the car.
Re: How much could I bore a 427? (vcole@metrocast.net)
You mean all midyears didn't come with the "large tree in the shotgun seat" option? Man.... I may have a rare one here!!!
Seriously, thanks for the comments. That picture was taken at a lake party that a friend of mine throws every year. He almost died from leukemia a few years back and it's his official "I didn't die party".
While we were there , we decided to take some pictures. Problem was there were signs everywhere that say stay off the grass. We snook (is that a word?) out real quick and didn't have much time to line things up. In fact we were literally racing to get done because the game warden had spotted us and was heading our way in a boat. He had been working just off shore all day (probably watching us!) and we placed the tree where it was as we moved around the car to keep him out of the picture. He is literally right on the other side of that tree!! And yes it was taken late in the day, almost dusk!
I'd love to have a poster made. I know little about this stuff. Can the tree be "removed" and colors enhanced by someone with photoshop stuff? maybe I need to just take some better pictures?
I know all the magazines say they don't like cars on grass, but the only thing that looks better to me is wheels up launches at the track!
Re: How much could I bore a 427? (vcole@metrocast.net)
I'm sure the tree could be taken out but I'm not that good with photoshop myself. I don't know what the problem with being on grass is, I have always thought they looked good and a field of grass. Anyway If you wanted to get another picture taken the offer still stands, it's the car I wan't, I don't really need the tree. I think the grass off the water was the best background for the color of your car.

I have a 0.100" over big block, with a 4.25" stroke crank and 1/8" longer than stock rods. No problems, street driven, good ring seal and no oil use. Check for core shift - look at the where the cam bearing is machined in relation to the block casting.
