Default 402 advice

Short Bio, original 72SS original 402. It's my brothers car 4.11 turbo 400 reverse manual valve body, 3200 stall. The motor wiped the cam and has always been a dog. I removed it for him over a year ago. Took him months to get it to his engine guy the guy still has not touched it Now since my brother saw me build my roller 355 in a few weeks he's thinking maybe WE can do it. You see there really is no WE At least he's thinking it needs more than a cam. Really! at first he though just a cam and it would be fine So looks like I'm going to get my first look at a BBC. Where is a good discount place to get parts for this? It has all MSD ignition, victor junior and 830 street demon, will need new headers as these are gone. What I need help with is a recipe for about 450hp? What cam, CC heads, piston type.

Gordon.

EDIT........... Any Big block basics would be welcomed.

There are plenty of good Internet sites offering discounted speed parts, e.g., Flatlander Racing, Jeg's Performance Auto Parts, or Summit Racing.

Your cam's profile (lift & duration) will drive every other choice, i.e., compression ratio which dictates choice of heads/pistons, valve train, and deck height. The cam's operating RPM will dictate your choice of rods, crankshaft, and other driveline components.

Every cam grinder has an on-line questionaire to determine the best cam profile for the intended application. Comp Cams' CamQuest is an excellent software program to zero in on the cam you need. The program is free and downloadable from their web site.

Good luck with your build!

Thanks but talked him into a 468.

What I originally wanted is just that. Specific part combinations as we were going to buy all new internals, so all we wanted was a tested combination.
