Well I put the AFR provided springs on there, but I am sure I'll have replace them in 6-8 months. By the then I should recover enough $$ to go back in with more "adaquate" spring. It'll also take my coater/cryo dude/dudette that long to process them for me.
My cam is a crane street roller, 680" lift with the 1.7 rockers. everything is heavy as well as heavy duty...push rods/shaft rockers/valves.
The AFR have all the right specs. for an install hieght of 1.9"/240lbs seat load....0.700" lift 550lbs/in spring rate.
So what the good brand or what should I look for? pecalloy? tool steel?
Also, my little on-head spring change tool (the good pivot arm not the cheap crow-bar one) couldnt intall the current springs much less new ones. So what is a good tool to change these out?

This is what I use at the shop and at home. But you have shaft rockers, so I'm not sure about your attachment point size. I also have the morroso spring pressure tester to see what it is on the motor
Your 227cc AFR heads have the modern light weight smaller stem valves. You do not need 240 seat pressure unless you are spinning it to 8000+ rpm
I use comp cams springs that when they are set to 2.00 installed height only have about 195 pound seat and mid 500 pound @ .700 I can't remember the number. As installed they are good for like up to .800 lift. So they run cooler because I'm not anywhere near that much lift. It seems to me that they were about $470 a set and I replace them when they get down to 175#
The valves though"modern" aren't lite. The drivervfor the seat load is 1st street solod roller, heavy shaft rockers, .120" wall pushrods. If u can remember the part number that would be great. Also a $470 spring isn't your typical vlv spring from comp cams.

I think that I might have the 927's and jegs sells them for about $430
