I'm working on fuel plumbing (to get all the brackets welded to the frame before exploding it for paint) and need to decide on a fuel pump so I can get it located and brackets instaled. I'm planning to run FI, and want an inline (not in tank) pump and filter. Goal is 500+ HP, and the fuel system is being plumbed with -8 (1/2") AN fittings and aluminum hard lines.
I'm surprised you haven't aleady decided on a Weldon. Weldon's are arguably the best pumps, but I've been usng Aeromotive pumps for the last 5 years, although they were sold under the Paxton name for awhile. For 500hp, all you need is the Aeromitve A1000 "1000hp" pump. I ran one of these with my old SuperRam DFI 383 and never had a problem with it, took it on weekend trips, etc. I used the same pump last year when I briefly ran the 650hp SBC 427, and it was plenty capable of producing the required pressure and volume. I added a second A1000 in parallel to provide the volume and pressure I'll need for the TT setup.
Aeromitive also offers a billet fuel pump controller which also will ensure longevity from the pump by only running it as hard as it needs to be, rather than full speed all the time. You can also manually switch the pump to full speed at any tme, and program the controller to run the pump at full speed at a user variable engine rpm point. Of course they also offer billet fuel filters with replacable elements and adjustable fuel pressure regulators, all setup with AN fittings.
I think most guys are using the Weldon 2025. I would get them at my local high-performance machine/speed shop, but you can also find them at many websites.
Thanks guys. I've seen the Aeromotive pumps. They are the ones recommended by BDS, so were one good candidate. I've not seen any Weldon EFI pumps, just the engine driven ones for mechanical FI and carbs, but will try to find some info on them. Package-wise the 110 gph Mallory FI pump also looks good, but I don't have any other experience info on them.
