My CompCams 285B-6 cam reccommends that it needs these springs: [/URL]
The Brodix Track 1 heads come assambled with these springs:
Can I use what the heads come with or are those springs too big for the 285B-6 camshaft? Are excess seat and open pressures hard on a cam that doesn't need them? Is there such thing as "over springing"?
I wouldn't run the brodix springs. Over 200 lbs seat pressure. Wow. How much open? Anyway, they are way to stiff.
First problem will be breaking in the cam. Most likely the lobes will go flat. If you somehow make it through break-in, I wouldn't expect much mileage out of the cam.

That's kinna what I was worried about. I'll call Brodix tomorrow and see if they can outfit the heads with something closer to what CompCams reccommends.
You definitely have to change the springs. You will flatten your soilid flat tappet within minutes with the solid roller spring you already have on the heads.

My machinist had some sort of Isky double springs he wanted to put on the old heads but those are long gone. I'm sure Brodix can ship the heads with the springs I want, but i'm willing to bet there's an extra charge.
with lesser springs the heads should be cheaper. with a solid cam anywhere from 125# to 155# is all that's required. If the heads are cut for 1.56 dia inquire about using that diameter spring with + .050 retainers to cut the seat pressure down to 155# or less.
Most of the thick deck aluminum heads have +.100 valves stems.
Your above rec. spring is for .550 max lift. your better off going with .600+ max lift even if your only lifting the valves .550 or less
I just got off the phone with Brodix and they said they can put whatever the hell spring on you want them to. But the Tracks 1's you see advertised everywhere do come with a .700 max lift roller springs with a 220lb seat pressure. The pockets are cut to 1.55 off the bat so whatever spring goes in there will be that diameter.. I'll surf the web a bit to see what's available for my application.
