Why i referred to sprint cars about pro action heads was because of the 42 cc chamber listings on their site. I originally purchased Brodix -11 down port heads for my project from friends who were moving up on their sprint car. The hidden costs is what made me sell them. When you get into custom stepped spread port headers and custom intake manifolds the dollars just keep riseing.

You have been to monty's web site. Everything he does is the best. Mine got out of hand. But i have less than $8K in the motor because I did lots of work and had freinds that helped out. Little things like. I traded $20 dollar a piece brand new intakes for used, but good titanium intake valves that only needed to be cut down to my 2.08 size. So I had only $2K or so in the completed heads. Then Summit Racing is only ten minutes from my house so I made many trips in one day to get this and that because nothing fits on a custom motor. I had machinest buddies who machine the allen locking rocker bolts to fit the Crane cam stud girdle to a combo of Crower and Comp Cams steel roller rockers. I did the block grinding to clear big H beam rods and bolts. Custom cam. The list goes on. If you or i paid a shop for the leg work - you'ld go broke.

gkull, you have a good point on the chamber size. They can be ordered with a 47 cc chamber - I calculate on a 454 I would need about a 30 cc dish piston to keep the compression ratio below 11.5:1. I figured custom pistons anyway for a 454 but they may have to go to a full dish to get 30 cc - that would eliminate the quench and I don't think that would be good. I would have to talk to a piston manufacturer about this. Maybe go with the Dart 18 degree head instead.

I can make my own headers so that's not a problem. Pro Action has a nice single plane intake for these heads - about $500. AFR lists shaft rocker assemblies for about $1,100 for these heads. Like you said it wouldn't be cheap and I'd go broke if I paid a shop to do the work.

I figure the total cost around 17-20k with me doing 99% of the work and no exotic stuff like titanium valves, sheet metal intake, belt cam drive .... With a blower setup I figure around 14k-16k total. Either way is a lot of $.
