According to this website http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm they were avail from 70-80 in a few different casting numbers with 2 or 4 bolt configs. From what I've inquired the 2-bolt specimans are the best...
I seriously considered this route... but down here in AZ, according to what I've been told by 2 machinests, they get just too hot. Siamese bores apparantly just aren't compatible with HOT weather. Got a spare 350 out of an 80 vette I'll stroke instead...
As far as vehicles I've seen them stock in... hmm... Caprice Station Wagons (the big land barge versions), Blazers (full size), Suburban's, and trucks in all ranges of sizes (1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton). I really don't know ALL the vehicles they were available in... just remebering from badging of the grill or front quarter panel.

Look at GM motorhomes, some of them came with 400's..... I know of one sitting on an engine stand but the guy will not sell it.... I keep trying to get him to sell it but he wants to keep it.
Scorp you can use retrofit style roller lifters, no block work needed.
Thanks. What about the camshaft? Would i only need a cam button and wear plate?
Yup. That's what I've got.
And how much are you looking to spend on the bottom end? I started with a shortblock from Lunati and ditched their cam and lifters in favor of Crane retrofit hydraulic roller lifters and the .219 cam.
