...a world of hurt will a novice like myself be in trying to put one of these together once the recipie is made? I am thinking going going with a 406-422 size engine as the next heart for my baby. :)
Can the stock electronics & MAF system manage an engine like that? Or is an aftermarket setup basically required?
Re: Big Cube Small Blocks, how much of.... (scorp508)
Building a big SBC ain't much different than building a typical 383, except you use a 400 block and you need to change you "train of thought" when it comes to selecting heads and cams. Once you get 400+ ci's, you need to almsot think in Big Block terms when it comes to cylinder head intake runner sizes and camshaft specs. With a 420+ ci SC, it's hard to run too large of a head and too much cam. 220cc and 250 degrees duration at .050" is "mild".
As for the EFI, you're probably better off with an after matker speed density like a FAST or Accel/DFI, but there are numerous examples of impressive big SBC's using factory electronics. It's really a matter of the tuner's talent. The MAF sensor will be a restriction, but there are aftermarket alternatives.
