Local yard has a late model block from what I dont know. It's a 2 bolt main. Bare block but cylinders have no ridges at the top. They're asking $75.
The big question is do I really need to wait to find a 4 bolt main block? With good internals the 2 bolt main should hold up to 450hp easily ....shouldnt it? as long as I dont try to spin it past 6500rpm.

I may go ahead and pick it up then. It seems like good late model (1 piece seal) blocks are hard to find unless you buy the whole motor. I either have to make my car much faster, or trade it.

2 bolt mains handle less than a 4 bolt. HOWEVER, keep in mind that 2 bolt mains can be modified to a 4 bolt in such a way that they handle MORE than a 4 bolt. I have a book on performance engines that explains how to go about doing this, but I do not have it here. If I come across this, I'll post it.

$75 is not bad, check the cylinders and make sure this has not been over bored. I would expect to find ridges on a used block. GM had a problem with the bearings on alot of these blocks and had to use a lot of odd ball sizes to get the crank right. I picked up one yesterday (free, whole engine) that had the provisions for the roller cam, lots of those out there too.
