I got 15 pounds today, did a rolling take off, and it Freaking Flew. Then I tried a good launch from a stop, tires took off spinning, then grabbed, boost pulled in.. (went about 20 feet) and BAM CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH, as my tires skid to a stop.. I think U joint or something, then look under the car and crap everywhere. So my trannie is everywhere now. I thought Super T-10's were good? Who as done T-56 trannie swaps? or what would be the strongest trannie? I would like to stay manual, even though I have heard that Automatics will always out perform manuals.
Anyways Any suggestions?
Also Merlin. I know you got the T-56. If you want to put something stronger in so you don't blow that one up before it even takes it's first turn of it's gears, Look me up. I would pay good cash for that.
Assuming (we all know what happens when you assume things) that the t-10 was assemblied correctly and didn't have some somthing wrong with it, your pushing a ton of power.
Did you buy the T-10 new or used? Either way did you have someone go thoguh it? Even still, cudo's to you for busting a pretty stout tranny. Can't wait to hear your engine specs.
Oh, if you can bust a T-10, I think you'll have little trouble cooking a T-56
Oh, For some reason I thought he had a T-56, it was just a glance when I saw it. How much did it run to do the Richmond? What are the specs on the TKO? And I assume this would also involve having a custom Driveshaft made? At this rate I might as well beef up the rear end. Looks like I am in store for alot of spending in the near future. Probabily wont be out till next spring now. :(
The Trannie has been in there for about 3 years with no problems ever in the past.
SO who knows what about the T-5 transmission? I hear the non WC one is basically a T-10 with an added gear. Are they as strong as a super t-10? are they hydrolic? Has anyone made this swap?
You need a Lenco or a Liberty to to get some kind of reliabilty as you continue to turn up the boost!!! Personally a T-400 or a 4L80E would do the job just fine, if you can handle not shifting so much...I know sticks are funner, but auto's are faster.
Good luck
ZF is pretty tough. Tougher than the T56 by a long shot. I don't know vs the Richmond but in reading the Summit description, the richmond was good to 450 hp while the ZF is probably good into the 600s before you need any modification.
Yeah, and then I have been speaking with some people and they all say that the Super t10 is one of the strongest. I have yet to pull it out, but I am beginning to hope something else went wrong with it and I just well helped it along to it's death. What ever it was though, it managed to split the case in 3 peices. I want to look into the Richmond 5 speed, and see if it is possible for them to install a different gear ratio so that I can have a overdrive 5th gear, Something similar to the T5 trans which I am having one hell of a time finding specs on. That and the super T10. I have looked all over the internet for some sort of info, I find history, but no actual specs. Does anyone know where I can find the specs on these transmissions, including dimensions?
What ratio 1st gear did you have in your ST-10? I have a 2.88 in mine and was able to rip a few teeth off of it with only about 380 ft/lb. Then again it did also have 166k miles on it. :D

Cool that you're putting down the power to bust the transmission like that. Sucks that you're going to be down for a while.
The numers that I got on the Tremecs were that the 3551 was rated @ 450 lb/ft. The TKO was rated at 500 lb/ft.
You shocked the trans which would be my guess why it broke. That no load to load, plus the boost shooting up when the load came in would do it.
You're gonna hate to hear it, but for reliability and money savings make the conversion to a TH400.
Well I called around all over hell today, looking for options, I found one super t-10 for 750 then another for 700 and another for 550. Then I found Apperently a richmond 5 speed track spec, it's at a local trans shop. They said it does not have the tail shaft however. The guy said he thinks the tail shaft from my st10 should bolt right on. I am kinda weary about it, but I went ahead and tore out my trannie tonight. I got a new record for my self, 1.45 hours, The help of my newly purchased air set made that possible.
I am going to really look into my options here, I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want to be stuck at the same level when I am done either. I am definitly hoping that there was something going wrong with the trannie over the time I have owned it, Considering it was actually kinda loud "which I thought was normal" and it had alot of drag considering when I let off the gas, I would quickly lose speed.
well see what happens, so far if I go with what I have found I should be back and running by next thursday.

Scorp,
How much are gears for this thing? I saw Richmond has the part numbers listed on their site, but no prices. Do you have any idea how much first gear and all 3 reverse gears would cost?
