Default Engine casting number

I found this number on my block(passenger side): 14088548

Accoding to one source, the year is 86-94.
According to another, it is 86-88

I can't go by the year of my car, mine is a C3 with a C4 engine.

The problem I am having is with buying parts. I've been told that this engine is an 87 model, but 87 seems to be a pivotal year.

The heads look like they are aluminum. The intake looks like the old style intake, used on older 350's (I'm running a Q-Jet).

So, does this engine have a roller cam?

If so, do I buy a roller cam for 87-up? Or 87-earlier?

It seems to me, since the intake is the older style, then I should buy a cam for 87-earlier.

Can someone clarify?

Thanks!

Default Re: Engine casting number (shotgun_000)

a few years ago I ran across two identical casting blocks. One had a roller and one did not. The non-roller had the lifter tree bolt bosses cast but were not drilled and tapped. I would just pull the intake and see if it has the roller lifter trees.
