I had some high temp paint mixed up, told it will hold up fine. Not sure what was done to it though... Find a local paint shop and ask them, or local engine builder...
GEES.. I did mine the dumb cheap way, I went to the auto store, bought some of that ceramic engine paint, ALL OF WHICH WERE UGLY COLORS.. no nice red. so I sprayed several coats of the ceramic paint on, then applied a nice fire red paint, a few coats of that, then sprayed a clear ceramic paint onto the red while it was still wet. Came out with a very glossy deep red block. and after 2 years, it's still perfect.. a little greasy, but it whipes off. HEH
??? Powdercoat isn't paint and it never comes w/ a clear coat over it. You CAN actually powdercoat an engine (I know someone who does it) but it's a major PITA w/ all the masking & stuff.
scorp, sorry for not getting back to you before now. I'm glad that you got the POR-15 kit. It'll stand up to stuff (fuel, carb cleaner, gunk, etc.) like nothing else that I've ever tried.
The important thing (and this CANNOT be overstated) is to make real sure that everything that you paint is thoroughly clean. You can paint over rust with this stuff (just not the "loose" stuff) and then top coat it. It's awesome.
Don't count on getting it off, though. I'm not even sure that boiling the block at a machione shop would get anything more than the top coat off.
I'm restifying (restoring/modifying) a pickup truck now and will paint the entire frame and undercarriage with this stuff. Rock chips will be a thing of the past.
