I know its not a 'Vette, but thought some of the experts here might have an opinion. TIA!
I have had my car for a couple years now, and decided to change ignitions to a MSD setup for rev limiter benefits. I bought an MSD6AL, a MSD distributor, and an MSD Coil locally at a hotrod shop. It is for a carbed 302. They had no 6AL's in the box, so I got the display model. I wonder if that's a factor. Anyway, I installed everything, and started timing my car. I realized the left bank had 2 plug wires reversed, and I shut it down to switch 'em back. A couple of seconds after turning it off, I heard an electrical pop. I looked at the MSD (on the front left inner fender, and saw a flash out of the hole in the box where the wires come out, and then smoke. Its dead. Did I do something wrong? It ran for several minutes before I realized the wires (#6 and #8) were reversed and shut it off. I'm gonna replace it tomorrow, but I hope its not something I did.
It sounds like the capacitors were discharging. I would double check all of the hook ups & wire routings. You may not have it grounded good enough. There also may be a reason it why it was a "display" model. :(

Thanks! I'm going to hook up the replacement tonight. I do think my ground is a bit questionable, so I'll redo it.
