Default New "Base" Engine (for No Flight)

Looks like I just bought a new "base" engine for No Flight, a 408" 600HP motor. I'll need to swap out the cam and heads to tone it down a bit, but it should be a good base. Looks like I'll have a 350 "010" block to sell in a bit (and some ported iron Pro-Action heads too).

Wish me luck - Greg

Why tone it down. 600 HP sounds pretty good to me

Compression (12.8) and cam timing (272/282@.050 .675/.645 lift) is a little much for the street and 92 octane gas.

I'm planning to swap out the Pro Action heads for AFR 220 race ready 76cc chamber ones, which should drop the compression to 11 to 11.2 (depending on the exact deck height). I'm thinking a 250@.050 .600 or just under cam.

Anyone (gkull, Monty, others) want to play some cam recommendation games?? I usually model the 8-stack EFI as around a 2500-3000 cfm IR manifold.

IMO - domed pistons and bigger chambers are not the way to go. But anyway are you looking for 600-625 hp on DD2000 or a comparable program all 92 octane compatable?

I'm not a fan of big domes either. These are +3cc net, flat tops are -5cc due to the valve reliefs. I'm hoping that the small dome and bigger chamber (76cc) will unshroud the valves (2.08 intake) at little better than smaller (69cc) w/ flat tops, also gives me a point in compression (10.9 -vs 10.8) which isn't significant but is in the right direction. I could swap pistons if I had to, but don't think it's needed.

My original goal for an engine was anything over 500 HP. I'm thinking 550 HP is a nice attainable goal with 400+ ft-lbs from 2500 to 6500 RPM. If I go over 600 HP I'll probably need bigger injectors than I have being setup now (36#).

At present I like the Isky RR-570T and the Crane 118751 cams, but I've only played with a few.

If you could get me the flow chart file for AFR220 I could get closer to real with DD2000. I used the specs on the race ready AFR210 with 2.08/1.6. I sent you the doc e-mail

Anyway it was 514 hp at 6000 and 534 lbs tq @4500 That's a stout solid Crane cam with 252/260 @ .050 .630/.630

The AFR 220 flow data I have (from AFR) is:

Intake
Lift: .05 .1 .2 .3 .4 .5 .6 .65 .7
Flow: 32 66.4 135 202 255 282 284 285 294

Exhaust
Lift: .05 .1 .2 .3 .4 .5 .6 .65 .7
Flow: 24 55.7 112 145 185 203 215 218 220

I ran the combo from the AFR web site (406, AFR 210's) where they have dyno data of 570 HP and the program "only" came up at 550. Idon't know what I was missing since I didn't think it was usually conservative in it's predictions.

Surprisingly (to me at least) the Isky RR-570T cam does really well with on .570 lift, which I would think to be much more valve spring friendly.

Since the motor has a brand new solid roller in it now it's really pretty much a given that I'll put another in, just cam cost as lifters (Crower), correct length pushrods, cam button and all is already there. Just need to decide which one to order :D

Yep, it's just a little ol street rod with a "Corvette style" fiberglass body on it :jester . I wouldn't be surprised to see it at the Mason Dixon NCRS all Corvette drags once in a while though :D .

Actually, the tires in the photos are Hoosier 15.50x29.5-15 RADIALS :yesnod:

Thanks for the DD runs. I was reading the manal on their web site and it said to model the short-stack FI setup as a "tunnel ram" style manifold, that the IR model was for long "torque" stack setups. That might be reasonable, as the 8-stack FI should really flow at higher RPM's.

Thanks again, Greg
