The total package?
I have been researching adding power to my LT1 (1995) for quite some time. The car is only aweekend warrior, and it will be seeing a few trips to the strip per year. From a cost standpoint, I believe that a stroker is the way to go (as opposed to twin turbo or supercharging), possibly with a healthy shot of nitrous for the track. I want to get some idea on the "total package" i.e. motor, transmission, and rear axle that will make for the most balanced car possible. I am looking for 500 hp and 500 torque from the motor with a 150-200 shot of nitrous at the track. Could my 4L60E be built to hold that much power? I have toyed with the idea of getting a 4L80E and I want to stick with an automatic for this one. What rear end ratio should I be looking for? Some have suggested not to go over a final drive ratio of 10:1 in first gear. This would mean a rear end ratio of around 3.36. I also plan on going with larger wheels and tires (perhaps as large as 20's with a 10" wide rear wheel). What else should I be concerned with for the rear end (in a 1978 car)? I had the entire rear axle completely rebuilt a year and a half ago. I plan on intalling a 4-point roll bar to stiffen up the car as well. Any thought or suggestions in any of these areas would be greatly appreciated!
