Default Best flow from D-ports

What is the most flow anyone has gotten from porting 1989, 113 D-ports?

I read that they support 400-420HP. Does this sound correct?

Just picked up my 113 D-ports man the walls are thin, and after reading Lingenfelter's book he says 180 CC is optimum for these heads.

I think that 180 cc's is the volume, not the flow. I don't know what flow you can expect. My Trick Flow 23degree heads flowed 257 cfm at .60 inch lift on the flow bench. That's without any work. But I wouldn't advise buying these heads because my buddy had a set and one of them cracked and they fixed that under warranty and later the other one dropped a seat out and it took out his engine. They were good about paying him for his broken parts but not the labor involved. Plus they bought back his heas so he could buy AFR heads.

Sounds correct to me. If they support 350 untouched, they should get a little more than 400 ported.

Sorry, I was referring to the Intake volum size. I have no idea what they flow based on this intake volume. I picked up these D-ports off an 89 for $350 complete and could not pass them up. Even with some porting they should be a pretty a nice bolt on.

Also I dont know if it will gain me that much to increase the valves to 2.0 and 1.6 from the stock 1.94 and 1.56 valve sizes.

A fully modified 113 head would typically flow about 215 to 225 cfm with 170 cc which is good for around 450 hp

If you have the money some can be made to flow 250 cfm but you would be better off starting with the afr's

Also the 113 castings are very thin and may not be as stable as the AFR's at 450hp

They are great street heads but if you are serious i would go with the AFR'S for a race car.

Thanks a bunch guys, this allows me to know what to expect for my build up!

So you can install 2.0 & 1.6 valves without machining,,,, yes?
And you can install larger valves on the intake side with some machine work?

Is this correct?

When i did mine i believed you just bought the valves and put them in :nonod:

What i found with mine was that the valve insert pockets had been machined at the same time as the valve guide bores......but the valve guides are bored after they have been fitted and so the valve seats don't run perfectly concentric with the valve insert.

I my case this meant i could not cut the seats to acomodate a 2.00 i/l or 1,56 ex valve without replacing the whole guide with a new bronze solid guide.

Unfortunatley, i did not notice this until after i had fitted bronze sleeves to the existing guides so i had to cut my valves down to the largest size i could cut the existing seat inserts too. (1.98 in, 1.5 ex )

The only good news was that the factory seats are cut way under size about 1.9 in so i still got a big increase in surface area:D

If i do them again i would start with new solid bronze guides that were garranteed to be concentric and then you should get 2.00 in and 1.56 ex.
i don't think you would get a 1.6 ex valve in the std insert but see what others say
