It's OK to tank the engine before you bore it right? You won't have to tank it again will you? I am buying a block and they are offering to tank and magnaflux it before shipping. However, I would get it bored out after. Thanks!
Hot tanking a block is one of the best ways to thoroughly clean an engine block prior to machining. In fact, I wouldn't machine without it - not some of the blocks that I've worked with right out of the nasty old engine compartments of some junk car.
That said, it is highly reccmmended to thoroughly wash the block with hot soapy water after machining (before assembly) to ensure that there are no metal shavings in the oil lines, etc. Just blow the water off/out before it dries (leaving rust residue) nad swap out the oil lines, etc. with rifle bore cleaners (Powerhouse Products, Eastwood, etc. have kits available also).
Cleanliness and careful assembly in a engine will give you long years of service.
