just curoius to know what your timing is set at ? also what is typical idle at cold start and in drive ? 383 stroker , hot cam , dart2 heads , holley 750 , holley electric fuel pump.
myine does as well , what do you have the timing set at ? i had the timing set at 15 over but it was to much so i had to retard it but i did this by hand . id rather know what other 383 `s timing are so i can set it properly. tia.
i wish i could tell you.....when i told my mechanic i wanted to move it a little he told me not to touch it! he said lean is mean but if i go to lean i could be looking for another engine! i know we did away with the vaccume advance on the distributer (engine builders advice) & removed the airhorn/choke (hood clearance issue). she runs real nice. good luck!
I have mine set at 36 degrees total. Thats 10 Initial and 26 mechanical all in at 2500 RPM. This is on a 383 with 10.75 to 1 compression, edelbrock performer RPM heads and intake, holley 750, and MSD Distributor. The cam is a comp 290magnum with roller rockers. It idles at 750RPM with a 2300 Rpm stall converter in front of a 700R4. No detectable spark knock and the vacuum advance is connected and set for an additional 20 degrees. I don't know if this helps you any(with all the variables)but I've found that the 383 likes about 34 to 36 degrees total timing. Good luck. Roy :flag
