Default 94 Vette L98?

I bought a L98 TPI 350 from a guy. He said it was out of a 94. I didn't give it any thought at the time but 91 was the last year for the L98. It is a 90 or 91 TPI cause it has a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor. The Corvette was a 94 (he sent me pics of the VIN). Was putting a L89 in the early LT1 cars a common practice or is this just a rarity. The block is a one piece rear main with a 94 casting date and the heads are the aluminum #10088113 casting. So I guess what I'm getting at is Has anyone ever heard of someone doing this?

Possible a prior owner "broke" their LT1 and used the L98 as an inexpensive replacement.
