I just bought some 6" Carrillo Rods with their Carr SPS bolt option :D :D :D ! I'm very excited about this  . My parts are starting to come :chevy
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (belair55)
Thanks Belair55
They're actually used NASCAR rods from Hendrix Motorsports. They're said to be in great condition and do come with a warrantee. Plus the best part is that I got them for an incredible price :D !
These should work great when I get the new motor completed. I've decided to destroke the 400sbc to a 377. With the 6.0" rod and the smaller stroke, I should be able to rev good without putting much pressure on the sidewalls of the cylinders for less friction & wear ;) .
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (Twin_Turbo)
Hey  cool Marck, those are the same exact rods :yesnod: . I'm hoping to bullet proof the bottom end for any future power enhancers down the road ;) . We'll be just motor to start with :) .
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (Twin_Turbo)
Marck I'm guessing they're the 2.0" rod journals like yours.
Here's the info I have on them:
8 Matched Carrillo connecting rods. 6.000"long x 2" wide rod pin x.820" wide, and .927 wrist pin. These rods are from Hendrick's Motorsports. They come with Carr SPS bolts ($480 option from Carrillo). 612 grams is the total rod weight. They also come with EDM oiling for the wrist pin. These are used rods in excellent condition and are guaranteed by Jr. Motorsports

Good luck luck building a 377 with those rods. I know of NO, off the shelf 3.48" or 3.50" crankshaft with 2" rod journals. 2.1 " is the common size. Of course you can always have the journals cut for the small bearings/rods. A lot of people don't want to buy a reground crank that has been turned more than .010". To bad you'll have to have one cut .100"
Thanks for the heads up CFI-EFI. I can actually get a Bryant crank with a 2" rod journal, but it would be in the 3.330 Nascar stroke which would give me a 361 sbc, short stroke with a big bore :D .
The one thing with those cranks though in that they have a BBC crank snout, so that'd have to be turned down. I just found out that I'll need my block machined to fit the .875 Isky severe duty roller rockers I bought also :) .
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (Twin_Turbo)
Hank the crank can custom make the crank you need
Marck
Yes! And others, too. It just seems a shame to cut the crank that far and lose the strength and overlap. The shorter the stroke, the less the compromise. Even an exisiting crank would have to be reheat treated. It is ALL possible. I just hope that the cost of making those rods work, doesn't excede the savings made on the purchase of the rods, in the first place.
2.000 rod journals are usually stronger than 2.100 because you can get a bigger radius journal-throw and the .100 material removed doen't make that much of a difference. I don't think I folow you on the overlap department?????
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (Twin_Turbo)
It looks as though I will mbe building my engine along the lines of a Nascar engine now. I will be having a short stroke and large bore much like the infamous Chevy 302's :D . We all know that the Nascar boys run these engines from 6,000 rpms & up so I don't think my strength will be compromise as I don't expect my street driven car to be abusing these parts in that way. I do like the fact that I can throw power adders on in the future (NOS, turbos, supercharger, etc.) with having to worry about my bottom end ;) . Overkill now, but who knows what the future entails  .
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (SmokedTires)
You've picked up some really nice parts in the Carillo rods and Bryant crank. I bought my Jesel shaft rockers and a set of Jesel roller lifters from JR Motorsports about 2 years ago as well. It's unbeleivable how much of a deal you can get on high-end parts from them. The Jesel J2K shaft rockers I got would cost about $1600 retail because of all the "Winston Cup" upgrades such as ARP 2000 fasteners, full shot peening ultralight profiling, oversized bearings and tool steel pushrod cups and adjusters. I think I paid $250 for them and they were like brand new. No wear or markings on the roller wheels. The Jesel roller lifters I got from JR were actually brand new! I paid $400 for the set of roller lifters. Retail, the lifters sell for $220 a pair(x8), or about $1200-1400 for a complete set of 8. When I got them and opend the box, I couldn't beleive they were brand new, they were never even installed in an engine.
I called JR back after I receieved the parts and they confirmed that the rockers had only been used in once, and the lifters had never been used because they were for 18* heads and the Nascar team they came from had migrated to SB2.2 stuff. If you know what you're looking for, you can build a 1st class engine for less than one would think.
Re: Just bought some Carrillo rods !!!! (Twin_Turbo)
Journal overlap! That's why Chevrolet increased the journal/bearing sizes on the 350s - to recover lost journal overlap from the increased crank throw radius. The bearings didn't need to be increased due to bearing loading.
Journal overlap is a big determining factor in crankshaft torsional and bending stiffness and, ultimately, crankshaft durability.

Ahh! That's what you guys mean, journal diameter in correlation to throw size, making the journa take up as much of the throw's "meat" as possible.l :) now I get what you nean. Is that called journal overlap? Okay thanks :)
I'm not too worried about the 2.000" journals, I wouldn't want to go any smaller though. I think this will be just fine.
